AMBASSADORS OF HOPE

Hope and optimism for the future.

Going forward I hope for myself that I will find a job that I really enjoy. I am in my final year of University and want to work with children and young people with developmental disorders.

Deirdre – Lincolnshire

Hope to myself is a youthful optimism for the future. The belief that most likely, things will work out in your favour, and never giving up on the things you want. Our generation has lived through some of the most monumental times in history, such as the recession, covid-19, the trump presidency, government instability, Brexit, terrorist attacks, the BLM movement as well as many others. As I have grown older I have realised about how the world is such a complex place and how things are never black and white. As a young person from Northern Ireland, I am considered a Peace process baby as in 1998 when I was born the good Friday agreement was signed.

I hope that the fragile peace achieved will continue, and that maybe one day that politics can be less shaped by the issues of the past but of a shared goal to make Northern Ireland better for everyone on the issues that impact every single community such as suicide, and mental health problems, and a push for integrated education.  Going forward I hope for myself that I will find a job that I really enjoy. I am in my final year of University and want to work with children and young people with developmental disorders. After COVID-19, I hope to be able to travel again and to complete my masters in Applied behavioural analysis as well as completing an internship.

I hope that the world can slowly recover from the economic and other disastrous effects of COVID-19, and other major events, and that the people most impacted by these events can be supported and get the assistance they need to move forward.  I hope our generation can learn from the mistakes of our parent’s and grandparent’s generation and that we are grateful for the opportunities we are given that they may not have had. I hope that somehow that things will improve such as from the introduction of a COVID-19 vaccine and that the election of Joe Biden as the new USA president will not only bring hope to America but to the UK as well, as an American ally. This will likely bring a more cooperative relationship that will hopefully rebuild alliances and improve global democracy.
