AMBASSADORS OF HOPE
Protecting the people of London.
When I was younger people assumed as a young black boy in hackney with a single mother it was only a matter of time till I got swallowed by this gang culture but I wanted to prove them wrong. When I reached the age of 13 I applied for the police cadets and took part in some amazing opportunities from participating in a charity project in the Gambia to assisting with the Olympics.
Dominik – Hackney, East London
For as long as I can remember I always wanted to be a police officer, it was the vocation I thought I was born for. Growing up in Hackney I was surrounded by gang culture ignited by these “postcode wars” as they were called. When I was younger people assumed as a young black boy in hackney with a single mother it was only a matter of time till I got swallowed by this gang culture but I wanted to prove them wrong. When I reached the age of 13 I applied for the police cadets and took part in some amazing opportunities from participating in a charity project in Gambia to assisting with the Olympics.
I stayed being a police cadet until I was 18 and in the summer before I left for university to study Criminology I joined the police now as a summer academy intern. Then I finally reached university. Whilst I took this path quite a few people I know took the opposite path and became affiliated with gangs and their members. It wasn’t that long ago but I still remember when I got my offer from the metropolitan police service, I was so proud of myself and shared the news but others weren’t so thrilled with my choice. I was shunned by people I thought were friends because they have developed an anti-police mentality that so many people have.
My goal and ambition is to stay in this career for a long as physically possible and continue doing right and protecting the people of London. I want to be part of a proactive policing team targeting violent crime and bring those who commit them to justice. I want to be part of the suppression on gangs and related crimes
