AMBASSADORS OF HOPE

Youth Engagement has grown my confidence.

Through participating in the youth engagement and development project, my confidence has grown. I’ve done various training and development courses and now volunteer for Achieve Potentials.

Harry Norton – Hull

I have a range of disabilities including LD, vision impairment, speech impairment, balance issues and a spinal issue; the result of being run-over when I was 12 years old.

Now 18, I’ve been with Achieve Potentials since 2015. I have some physical issues with hips, knees and back, plus a vision impairment, a stutter and mild learning difficulties. With encouragement, I participated in a variety of activities and am good at wheelchair basketball. Through participating in the youth engagement and development project, my confidence has grown. I’ve done various training and development courses and now volunteer for AP. I am a regular team member of a local and regional wheelchair basketball team; I was nominated for the Young Athlete of the Year 2018 in the regional Disability Sports Awards.

In 2019, I was on the ‘standby’ list for the BBC Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge, another example of just how much my confidence has grown over recent years. I attend cadets and participate in sports sessions during holiday periods. I do Visual Impairment sports and get on very well with the much older participants. I have attended a couple of young people achievement focused events in London, which were good experiences.
